When Microsoft recognized the threat that Netscape posed to their desktop monopoly, Microsoft responded with all the aggression they could (including things outside of the boundaries of the law). Given that the winner of the DRM wars will effectively be the gatekeepers of culture, the stakes this time are considerably higher.
