Pirate Party

The Swedish Pirate Party (Wikipedia) has won one seat (possibly two) in the 2009 European parliamentary elections.

I wasn't a big fan of a party by that name, but I think I'm slowly turning around. When I read their declaration of principles I see many things I agree with. They aren't for abolishing copyright, but trying to make this law fulfill its alleged goal in a changed political and technological climate.

Canadian political parties should take note, and modernize their thinking on these critical laws before they loose youth wing members to organizing a Canadian pirate party. While there are forward thinking individual members and candidates of each of the parties, and in the case of Charlie Angus a great sitting member of parliament, each party is at risk of loosing votes to a Canadian pirate party.
