Reminder: 4th Annual Keeping an Artist on the Hill Fundraiser

I wanted to send out a reminder that next Wednesday is the 4th Annual Keeping an Artist on the Hill Fundraiser, which will be held at the Supermarket Nightclub in Toronto (Augusta near Spadina and College). Even if you are not able to attend the fundraiser, there is an online form to donate to Charlie's campaign -- and you get quite a bit of your donation back as a tax credit.

I just made a donation of $250, the amount I have donated in the past. As long as my donations are $400 or less over the year I get 75% of that back ($250 * .75 - $187.50), meaning I'm only out-of-pocket $62.50.

Charlie isn't just an artist, but an forward thinking artist who understands the benefits of new communications technology and telecommunications services. Rather than joining with some of the legacy artist groups who seem to want to look backwards and lock down our technology, and disallow any communications service that isn't configured like legacy telephone and broadcasting, he embraces citizen participation in new media as a democratizing force.

I'm not an artist, but a software author and provider of Internet related services. Charlie is the best ally we have on the hill, and we should ensure we do what we can to keep him there. Even if you might never vote NDP in your own riding, put your support behind Charlie!

And if you can get to Toronto, check out the cool music next Wednesday!
