Software Freedom Day: August 28, 2004

On August 28, 2004, we will celebrate the first annual Software Freedom Day. On that day, we will make the world aware of the virtues of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), and encourage its widespread use.

This is a global grassroots marketing campaign in which we are inviting volunteers from around the world to participate.

Hi, I'm New to this group and I'm more of supporting
Freedom of consumers' electronics.

When it comes to Consumers' electronics here in
America, it's gets under controls. From DVD softwares
to digital satellites.

I'm sure you heard of 321 Studios that makes DVD X COPY
for making DVD backups has been closed out by Hollywood
industry with their DMCA law.

I'm wondering, do you know who signed the DMCA law
here in America? At what year?

Whenever will the DMCRA - Digital Media Consumer's Rights
Acts be re-introduced? Know anything about that?
I understand that it was turned down and if it wants
to be re-introduce, it should be re-written clearly.

Subce 321 studios - DVD X COPY is closed out, there are
lots of other bundles of DVD backups software out there
in other countries, including Canada. Like Canada is
becoming more Liberal and more freedom when it comes to
Consumers' electronics. Then you're strickly here in the U.S.A.
Consumers here in the U.S. continues to purchase DVD backups
softwares from Canada over on the internet.

Not only DVD Backups software, but digital satellite receivers,
also. I'm sure you heard of "DREAM MULTI-MEDIA" which is a
company in Europe and it's distributor in Canda that sells
digital satellite recievers, "Dreambox" which unlocks all
digital satellite channels. Which also includes hard drive
and software in it's receiver. You don't see anything like
this in the U.S. market. But I heard and seen on the internet
that most American conusmers are buying software and hardware
that are in the Canadian's market, and that they're able
to receive it across the boarder.
Once american conusmers have the materials, they should be
"HUMBLED" do NOT tell and share on what they ordered and
uses.

I wish my country, here in the U.S. would do the samething
as to what you're celebratings, the Software Freedom Day
on August 28th. I'll be thinking about it. Wish this could
be heard on the american news. I doubt it. But I do believe
the Software Freedom Day would be seen and heard on the BBC
news.

Hope all the information I inquired helps with answers.

You can e-mail me by direct at ECruz68007@aol.com

Thanks for letting me join the group and I hope we can
continue to discuss the issues.
