According to an article on VoteForMMP as well as DemocraticSpace, the 4 parties that make up 98.6% of the votes in 2003 have all officially committed to holding democratic nominations for list candidates under the recommended mixed-member proportional (MMP) system. Comments have updated that many of the parties representing the remainder of voters have also committed to a democratic nomination process.
Please remember this when you hear party hacks who support the status-quo voting system claim that list candidates will be appointed or unaccountable. Given how this process must be disclosed ahead of the election, the new system is far more transparent and accountable than the old system.
