Canadian Photographer Claims Violation of Creative Commons License by MP

According to a BLOG article by Michael Geist, Betty Hinton, the Member or Parliament for Kamloops - Thompson - Cariboo has infringed the copyright of a Canadian photographer that was licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license.

“The licensing information was right there, right on the photo. So that was bypassed by a member of Ms. Hinton’s office,” Hobby photographer David Wise told Kamloops This Week. You can also read what David wrote on his own BLOG.

As parliament gears up to make radical changes to the Canadian Copyright act that will make Copyright more complex and make more activities infringing, this type of case can be a very useful educational exercise to remind MPs that the first priority must be to "clarify and simplify the Act", and that non-biased public education on the law is far more helpful than the counter-productive direction they have been contemplating so far.
