FLORA COMMUNITY WEB FACILITATES THE WEAVING OF A COMMUNITY WEB

OTTAWA, Ontario -- February 4, 1997 -- FLORA Community WEB, a volunteer based service to the Ottawa community, announced today a project to connect a number of new services to the online Ottawa community. These services will be operated out of the homes of a number of local volunteers using their own computers and expertise.

"The entire online community will gain by the diversity of projects that will be possible with this group of volunteers. Many of the people involved are professional system administrators who have been using online tools to help the Ottawa community for a number of years", stated Russell McOrmond, technical volunteer for FLORA Community WEB.

This project is possible through the sponsorships of Information Gateway Services. IGS sponsors a 64Kbps dedicated ISDN Internet connection and Russell McOrmond Consulting sponsors another 64Kbps connection. FLORA's connection speed is 128Kbps. Modems and an additional ISDN connection are used to link 4 different locations together with this group independantly paying for the interconnection costs.

This project was facilitated through communications tools made available by OX. Additional information on this project can be found at http://www.ox.org/ox/projects/shared_cost_ip/.
