FLORA COMMUNITY WEB RECEIVES 64Kbps INTERNET CONNECTION FROM IGS

OTTAWA, Ontario -- December 20, 1996 -- FLORA Community WEB, a volunteer based service to the Ottawa community, announced its new sponsorship agreement with Information Gateway Services (IGS), one of Ontario's largest Internet Service Providers. IGS is sponsoring a 64Kbps dedicated ISDN Internet connection and Russell McOrmond Consulting is sponsoring another 64Kbps connection. FLORA's connection speed will now be 128Kbps.

"This new connection between IGS and FLORA will give FLORA access to the support available through IGS, and will give IGS customers very fast access to the community services and people at FLORA", remarked Russell McOrmond, technical volunteer for FLORA Community WEB.

FLORA is a destination on the Internet that runs a variety of technologies, including World Wide Web, Newsgroups, and Email. The site allows people to participate with other volunteer groups and get involved with their community. The groups now residing on FLORA are: the Citizens for Safe Cycling, Auto-Free Ottawa, Home Based Learning Network, Ontario Federation of Teaching Parents, and the West End Family Cinema. Special services include the Pednet (pedestrian network), Alternative Transportation and Lynx discussion groups, Ask-the-Doctors, Visually Impaired Information, New Canadian Books, and Canadian Home School Information Resources, and the Répertoire Outaouais (Ottawa area WEB directory). New groups are encouraged to visit and take part at FLORA.
