Dear Ms. Ramsay,
Bill C-60, as introduced by the previous Minister of Heritage under a Liberal government, received first reading on June 20, 2005. As a result of the dissolution of the 38th Parliament on November 29th, 2005, this bill died with the parliamentary session. In order for this bill to reach royal assent, and therefore become law, it must be re-introduced in the 39th parliament and make its way through the legislative process once again. At this time, the House of Commons has yet to sit for the 39th Parliament, and as such, no proposed legislation has yet been introduced. Former Liberal Heritage Minister, Liza Frulla, who introduced this bill last session, is no longer a Member of Parliament. I would suggest contacting the Ministry of Heritage and inquiring with them as to whether this bill will be re-introduced.
Regards,

I am wondering what you can tell me about the status of Bill C-60, and Act to Amend the Copyright Act. I know it received first reading in the previous session of Parliament, but will the current government be pursuing it?
I have many serious concerns about this legislation as an educator and I would like to know if it will be revised.
