On a topic that most have never spent the time to think about, a press release from the major US and European recording labels claims that a majority of Canadians agree with their narrow special interests views.
Like any such polling it is possible to word questions such that any desired answer can be confirmed. They start from the non-controversial which is that a majority of people believe that musicians should be rewarded for their creativity to the highly controversial which is to claim that the current major label business models and lobbying is the best (or even a valid) way to achieve that goal.
The teaming up with the trivially bogus statistics of the "software manufacturing" branch of the software industry isn't surprising. Their statistical methodologies have always included their major competitors in their claims of "theft", with the recording industry statistics being equally bogus. Competition is not only not theft, but it is a required part of the economy that must be protected from these extremists if our economy is to survive.
