Letter received from the Department of Canadian Heritage

Letter received from the Department of Canadian Heritage on November 28, 2005.

Dear Mr. McOrmond

I am writing in response to your correspondence to the Honourable Liza Frulla, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Satatus of Women, co-addressed to various Members of Parliament, regarding Bill C-60, An Act to amend the Copyright Act, as it pertains to digital rights management.

Ms. Frulla appreciates your advising her of your views and has noted your comments with respect to this matter. As Bill C-60 has been introduced in the House of Commons, it is now within the purview of Parliament. Once this will is referred to a legislative committee for consideration, interested parties will have the opportunity to share their views as the committee studies the Bill. Decisions with regard to witnesses rests exclusively with the committee. Information on the appointment of the legislative committee is available on the parliamentary Web site at http://www.parl.gc.ca. You might want to indicate to the committee your and Mr. Corey Doctorow's interest in appearing as witnesses, before the committee.

Your interest in copyright is appreciated. Updates on the ongoing copyright reform process are available on the departmental Web site at http://www.pch.gc.ca/copyright .

I trust that this information is useful. Please accept my best wishes.

Yours sincerely,

Luc Rouleau
