The minutes and transcript from the special August 26, 2008 to "discuss the recent cancelling of federal cultural financial assistance programs" are online.

This meeting was held when everyone pretty much knew an election would be called. This should be read as an election debate on federal government funding of cultural programs from some key politicians running for re-election. While Copyright wasn't on the agenda, it did get discussed.

The Montreal group has a great WIKI set up at FairCopyrightMontreal.org. This is an exciting trend to see, as it will allow people in the area to better coordinate with their neighbours to talk to their neighbours and their own elected representatives.

Copyright policy is the joint responsibility of the Minister of Canadian Heritage and the Minister of Industry. Two committees of the House of Commons are therefore the key members who are most likely to be studying this topic and related bills.

Members of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage (CHPC)

One of the current activities of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage is a Briefing on Copyright, where they have had a few meetings.

Michael Geist has blogged about the Not-So-Straight Talk on Copyright MPs are receiving.

I believe this should also be taken as an oportunity for constituents to write to MPs who are in Heritage and Industry committees prior to a bill being tabled.

About fifteen kiosks hosted by local and not so local Free Culture enthusiasts such as Debian, FreeCulture, KDE, île sans fil, Savoir Faire Linux; a press conference announcing the Semaine québécoise de l'informatique libre, a Free Software week; a Richard Stallman presentation on copyright; and finally, the answers to all your questions with Russell McOrmond (Flora), Daniel Pascot (Laval University) and Marcus Bornfreund (Ottawa University), responsible for the canadian adaptation of the Creative Commons licenses.

Omar Bickell published an audio recording of the talk in Montreal on November 27.

The Saturday conversation in Montreal was great. Many of the participants seemed interested in working together to help to educate the public and members of parliament on copyright and related issues. We created a Montreal-specific mailing list to continue discussions.

Montreal is an important area as you have both the Heritage Minister and the Prime Minister there, members of Heritage committee, and the leader of the Bloc.

One thing that would be very helpful is if people in the area could go to the information page for their riding and post something about the local MP. This may help encourage others in the area to get involved as well.
