Read: [next] [previous] message[d@DCC] Specific clauses that other individuals/groups agree/disagree with? From: Russell McOrmond <russell _-at-_ flora.ca> While I have done a draft of my own clause-by-clause, I am curious if people have seen other people/organisations that have commented on individual clauses. From the Access Copyright (AC) and International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) crowd (IE: members/representatives that are members/representatives from the groups under these often surprisingly similar umbrella lobby groups) I have largely only seen the "More copyright is better -- this is more, so therefore we think it is better". The first volley of complaints seem to come from the AC crowd in that they believe that they should be paid for those things that this bill is making into fair dealings. In other words, they reject the notion of fair dealings entirely (flexible or otherwise), and believe that there should be only two scenarios: permission required (traditional copyright) or collective licensing (no permission, only payment required). Short sighted for anyone who alleges to represent creators, but that is the position they have offered so far. I expect to see ongoing dissent in the ranks, and possibly over time more splinter groups that will separate forward-facing creators from the backward-facing ones that AC members groups appear to represent now. None of the commentary I have seen so far has dived into specific clauses and listed what they consider to be things they can live with compared to what they consider to be show-stoppers. -- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: <http://www.flora.ca/> Please help us tell the Canadian Parliament to protect our property rights as owners of Information Technology.
