[Was: Movie copyright duration]From: "Scott Elcomb" <psema4 _-at-_ gmail.com> Hi all, I want to follow up on the thread entitled "Movie copyright duration," started by Jonathan Addleman. Earlier today, my daughter put on one of her favorite movies, "Heidi." The DVD says it's (C) 2005 Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment LLC (All Rights Reserved, of course) and contains two separate copies of the movie - one in b&w, the other in "restored" color. This DVD is full of copyright violation notices and protection, both in print on the cover, and in notices/codes on the disc - including a special "Pirating is Illegal!" commercial. The original movie (b&w) was produced in 1937... Could anyone tell me if can I legally "copy" this movie? (I'm not expecting responses from lawyers, but I'd really enjoy your opinions!) TIA! - Scott. -- Scott Elcomb [ http://www.psema4.com/ ] "Our Founders' faith in the viability of representative democracy rested on their trust in the wisdom of a well-informed citizenry, their ingenious design for checks and balances, and their belief that the rule of reason is the natural sovereign of a free people." - Al Gore (The Assault on Reason, 2008) "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin '"A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." - Mark Twain _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@list.digital-copyright.ca http://list.digital-copyright.ca/mailman/listinfo/discuss Read: [next] [previous] message List: [newer] [older] articles You need to subscribe to post to this forum. |
