Subject: Registering my opposition to Bill C-47 Dear Mr. McGuinty, I believe Bill C-47 is an inappropriate special-interest law aimed at denying Canadian citizens the ability to publicly discuss (including critique) an important cultural event, the Olympics. This is an event that goes back further than the existence of Canada or any organizing committee. I believe existing Canadian PCT (Patent, Copyright, Trademark) law is already beyond sufficient to protect any legitimate interests, and this new bill is both unnecesary and will have harmful "unintended" consequences. I agree with professor Geist that it is embarrassing that Mr. Bernier has no time for critical legislation surrounding protecting network neutrality or addressing SPAM, but has time to pass such specialized laws to benefit such a tiny few at the expense of most Canadians.
