The last time I saw that "downloading hurts the little guy- stop
or we might fire the painters" I was in a Galaxy theatre. I
complained to the manager that I had come to the theatre and paid
my money to watch the film. Since I was at the theatre to watch
the film, I should not have to listen to falsehoods that did not
apply to me when it was my time. I explained that it made me so
angry, it made me want to not come to the theatre in the future
and in the future download a film I wanted to watch.

The Galaxy theatre manager took my complaint seriously and said
he would forward it onto head office. I got a call back from the
manager about a week later saying that "Galaxy has decided to
discontinue all ads of this nature in Canada." I thanked him and
I haven't seen one of those annoying lying ads from the RIAA in a
Galaxy theatre since. (And now I always choose Galaxy as my
theatre to watch movies.)

So my point is... complain to the distributer. The distributer
has got to realize that their business is going to suffer if
internet downloads (authorized or otherwise) keep people from
buying their products and services.

A smart manager would realize that the RIAA (and similar groups)
are a threat to them too. They may be very sympathetic and do
something about it. In this case the DVD manufacturer/publisher likely has to pay the license holder, but may not care what's on the DVD as long as it's sold. If they think the "bonus" content is going to keep people from buying it, they just may axe the bonus content.
