The letter would read something like: You hold in your hand 10000 public domain books covering all manner of topics: Shakespeare, dictionaries, encyclopedias, novels, textbooks, political and historical documents, classical literature and much more. The works of Charles Dickens, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and many others are on this disk. This single disk contains more books than my elementary school library did, and this disk from Project Gutenberg is free to distribute to anyone. It costs less than a dollar to produce a copy of this DVD. Canada would greatly benefit when all its citizens can freely read, access and work with these texts. However, by extending the length of copyright and locking away current works, the value of this work cannot grow. No new works may be legally added to this collection if Future works will be prevented from being added. If works are encumbered by Technological Protection Mechanisms (TPM), then even when those works become legally distributable, the TPMs will technically prevent anyone from adding the works to this digital library. Please, do not allow this to happen. Do not pass bill C-60 in its current form. Ensure that the wealth of the public library can grow and is not locked away by corporate interests. Yours truly, a concerned voter and citizen If anyone wants to use this idea, please do. Just let us know how it works out. -- Stephen Salomons Ernst-Berl Institut, CT1 Technische Universität Darmstadt Petersenstr. 20 64287 Darmstadt, DE salomons@ct.chemie.tu-darmstadt.de Fax.: +49 (06151) 16 34 65 Tel.: +49 (06151) 16 43 03 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list Discuss@list.digital-copyright.ca http://list.digital-copyright.ca/mailman/listinfo/discuss Read: [next] [previous] message List: [newer] [older] articles You need to subscribe to post to this forum. |
