Louis-Pierre Riel, the person in charge of the updates of MOPOP, gave me
a call. http://strategis.ic.gc.ca/sc_mrksv/cipo/patents/mopop/mopop-e.html

They had a meeting last Monday with patent agents, and while there is
still discussions about a chemical area of their updates (updates to
chapter 16 on statutory subject matter, and 12 on classifications) the
work is pretty much finalized. He is as interested in getting this
publicly published as I am, which is great news.

The next step once the current practice is published is to try to get
the patent policy directorate to work on this area of policy. This will
likely require many letters to the Industry minister and other MPs to make
this a more politically known topic.

For those who are interested in such things, here is where Patent Policy
sits within the government hierarchy.
