Buying a new DVD player this Christmas? You'll probably want to ask 
Santa for another one next year.

Movie studios are taking sides in the battle over future formats for 
DVDs and the outcome is going to cost consumers.

The movies you buy this Christmas will always work in the DVD player you 
currently own. But today's players likely won't be able to play all of 
the DVDs released next year. And the next generation of DVD players — 
set to hit the North America in late 2005 — might not play your existing 
DVD collection either.

So can we sue the movie companies for forcing manufactures to create DVD 
drives that can't (though there are hacks) read and copy DVDs, then to 
stop supporting that standard so that our entire DVD collections become 
unusable over time. I should think there is a class action law suit in 
here somewhere. It looks a little like a rabbit too.
