[d@DCC] SPAM supportive of the Conservative party making the rounds...
From: Russell McOrmond <russell _-at-_ flora.ca>
I am the Webmanager and list manager for digital-copyright.ca. We have received many copies to that domain and many others of what looks like a SPAM with a highly political message suggesting Canadians vote for the Conservatives on Monday. I recommend people save copies of these, in case Elections Canada or someone else (the media?) decides to launch an investigation of this SPAM. When CIPPIC asked the Conservatives what their views were on how to deal with the SPAM problem, they provided no answer: http://www.cippic.ca/election2004 While I am not suggesting the party officially endorsed this SPAM, I do wonder whether this is the answer from some strong party supporter to that question. All I know for certain is that this specific copy of the message came from the IP address of 188.8.131.52 . I have received many other copies that come from different IP addresses in several other countries. One possibility is that this is being distributed via machines infected by some virus/trojan used by other SPAM distributors. The WHOIS database says that this message came from an IP address in the UK: http://www.ripe.net/perl/whois?form_type=simple&full_query_string=&searchtext=184.108.40.206&do_search=Search The SMTP HELO message said "digitalcanvas.ca", but that doesn't mean much of anything as it could have been forged. The references to @bewdy-newk.com, @excite.com, and @hotmail.com could all have been forged. -- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: <http://www.flora.ca/> Petition for Users' Rights, Protect Internet creativity and innovation Canadian Election 2004: http://digital-copyright.ca/ Find out where parties and candidates stand on important Tech issues! ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Sat, 26 Jun 2004 17:47:38 -0400 From: email@example.com To: firstname.lastname@example.org Subject: BOUNCE email@example.com: Non-member submission from ["Thomas" <firstname.lastname@example.org>] >From email@example.com Sat Jun 26 17:47:37 2004 Received: from mail.flora.ca (madras3.flora.ca [220.127.116.11]) by newdelhi.flora.ca (8.12.10/8.12.10) with ESMTP id i5QLlbdx022328 for <firstname.lastname@example.org>; Sat, 26 Jun 2004 17:47:37 -0400 Received: from digitalcanvas.ca ([18.104.22.168]) by mail.flora.ca (8.12.10/8.12.10) with SMTP id i5QLZkgI002930; Sat, 26 Jun 2004 17:35:46 -0400 To: <email@example.com> From: "Thomas" <firstname.lastname@example.org> Date: Sat, 26 Jun 2004 21:48:33 GMT Message-Id: <email@example.com> Sender: firstname.lastname@example.org Subject: FW: Canadians...
