Some comments:

"TPM - (Technological Protection Measures) deter piracy, encourage
rights owners to use new media like the internet, and provide consumers
a sophisticated new range of ways of enjoying music. "

Separate definition from purpose and objectives. Create your own
definition, or find value-free definitions, e.g. TPM are computer
programs, hardware, and techniques such as encryption which publishers
use to control use of copyright or other material.

"In order to protect an individual’s work as well as encourage and
foster future inventions, there needs to be in place some methods of
exclusion in order to create an environment that would ensure financial
benefits for the hard work and time invested, "

That's a position, not a description. Separate facts and opinions
clearly.. Copy"right" actually contravenes the right of free speech and
publishing. It was instituted as a matter of public policy to encourage
and reward publishing.

There are a variety of other problems mentioned in the message
archives. My particular thorns are:
    - encrypted material will seldom pass into the public domain because
    decryption is prohibited forever.
    - full control implies the publisher needs to know who is using what,
an infringement of privacy. Control of decryption technology in the
home implies more invasion of privacy.
    - diversity and evolution of encryption techniques implies expense for
libraries and probably the complete unreadability of material when the
copyright expires and the material officially passes into the public
    domain.
