Read: [next] [previous] messageOpen letter to ScotiaBank and VISA cretid card company. From: Russell McOrmond <russell _-at-_ flora.ca> I sent this to Scotiabank via their online feedback form: ---cut--- I am currently a Scotiabank Visa customer. It has come to my attention that VISA credit card company is suing under trademark law a company called evisa.com which offers *travel* related services, a dictionary usage of the term 'visa'. In many respects, they have more right to use the name than the credit card company does. I would like you to know that if Visa succeeds in destroying the dictionary usage of this word, that I will be boycotting the VISA credit card. I will still need a credit card, so I may be switching to another bank in order to deal with this issue. I felt it was appropriate for you to know, and to advise VISA to drop this insane abuse of trademark law! http://www.eff.org/Cases/Visa_v_JSL/20021121_eff_pr.html ---cut--- Note: To see some of the other inappropriate trademark claims they make to wards with other more common dictionary meanings, see http://corporate.visa.com/footer/legal.shtml --- Russell McOrmond, Internet Consultant: <http://www.flora.ca/> See http://weblog.flora.ca/ for announcements, activities, and opinions ALERT!
