Electoral systems and copyright: Join Fair Vote Canada!

Our friend Russell McOrmond has previously outlined the electoral success of the Pirate Party in the European Parliament.

A fundamental difference between the electoral system of the European Parliament and Canada's Parliament is the electoral system for the lower house.

Why Fair Copyright advocates need to join Fair Vote Canada

The 2008 election results (as of tuesday @ 03:29) shows why Fair Copyright advocates need to join Fair Vote Canada to change the electoral system:

Party that took a progressive stance on copyright as a party:

  • The Green Party: 6,8% of the votes, 0% of the seats

Party that has an MP representing the party on copyright reform with a progressive stance:

  • NDP: 18,2% of the votes, 12% of the seats

Who wants to go and talk to Paul Dewar (Ottawa-Centre)?

Russell has encouraged many times over readers of digital-copyright.ca to go talk to their political representatives and with reason. MPs think about these issues only when we take the time to raise it to their attention. Forget the e-mails, lets go and see them in person!

So who's wants to go talk to Paul Dewar of Ottawa-Centre? My contact info is below.
